How one bold stitch at a time, we’re weaving a new creative future from Ethiopia, rooted in purpose, built on resistance, and why we can’t do it alone.
There’s a quiet courage that comes from continuing to build when everything around you says you shouldn’t.
I’ve felt it in the moments I’ve had to pause production because fabric didn’t arrive.
In the hours I’ve spent explaining, again and again, why our vision matters to funders, to partners, to people who still think African-made means second-best.
In the deep fatigue of carrying a business on my back while the systems meant to support you… Don’t.
But also, in the joy of watching DolMel’s signature patterns come to life.
Trace back to my late grandmother, whose traditional tattoo, quietly admired in my childhood, inspired elements of DolMel ™ early patterns.
And it’s in her old house, a tiny space, barely a workshop by industrial standards, but rich with spirit. It’s here that fabric is cut, stitched, and pieced together. Her presence is felt in every corner. It keeps me grounded. It keeps me going. In my grandmother’s home, where DolMel’s journey is taking shape — surrounded by our fabrics, machines, and big dreams.
In the spark of recognition from artisans when they see their work honored in modern design.
In the quiet messages from young dreamers who say, ‘You’ve made me believe this kind of path could be mine, too
These are the threads that keep me going.
So, what are we really building at DolMel ™ ?
We’re building a purpose-driven manufacturing space where culture meets innovation a place where handwoven tradition, intentional design, and circular practices come together to reimagine what #African fashion can be.
DolMel ™ combining Ethiopian craftsmanship with digital reactive textile printing technology, which works ONLY on natural fibers, the first of its kind process in the textile and fashion industry in Ethiopia, with thoughtful storytelling rooted in heritage. We produce in small batches. We design with meaning. And we see each piece as a living archive of where we’ve been and where we’re going.
Now, we’re working toward our next chapter: acquiring a high-quality digital reactive printer that would allow us to bring printing in-house for the first time, not just for us, but for others across the creative landscape.
With this tool, we can:
- Print photography, art, and textile designs, both on handwoven fabrics and machine-woven fabrics made and finished right here in Ethiopia
- Serve other African brands, visual artists, and photographers who want to create with high-quality, local production
- Support big institutions like Ethiopian Airlines with custom-printed, ethically made fabric products
- Build an ecosystem of collaboration rooted in creativity, craft, and circularity
This isn’t just a production upgrade, it’s a creative infrastructure project.
One step closer to keeping value, vision, and ownership on the continent.
What makes DolMel ™ it different?
We’re not driven by trends. We’re driven by truth.
By the belief that creative autonomy, economic dignity, and cultural continuity can and should coexist.
We’re an emerging brand, still small, still scrappy, but with a soul much bigger than our scale.
What we lack in #machinery, we make up for in #meaning.
What we don’t yet have in #capital, we make up for in #clarity.
And I’ve built this mostly alone, as a woman, as a founder, as someone who’s tired of waiting for the system to catch up.
So I decided to create something that could lead instead.
What are we asking for?
If you’ve made it this far, you probably believe in more than just pretty clothes.
You believe in possibility. In building new pathways. In creative work that nourishes not just the market, but the soul.
So here’s our open call:
We’re looking for co-builders. Partners. Purpose-led investors. Curious collaborators.
People who believe in circular fashion and Africa-rooted design and want to grow something meaningful, from the ground up.
Whether that’s through resources, ideas, capital, or introductions, this is your invitation to reach out and help shape what comes next.
Let’s connect: dolmel@dolmel.et or DM me directly.
If you’ve ever tried to build something when the odds were stacked against you, then you already understand what DolMel™ stands for.
It’s not just a brand.
It’s a living act of creative power. A commitment to build beauty and meaning on our own terms.
Let’s stitch this future together. Let’s keep going…shall we?
